FORMER CONGRESSWOMAN TILLIE FOWLER

JACKSONVILLE, FL, MARCH 2, 2005 - Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc. ("WNDXQ") released the following joint statement from President and CEO Peter Lynch and Chairman of the Board Jay Skelton:
"Our hearts are heavy at Winn-Dixie as we mourn the passing of former Congresswoman and businesswoman Tillie Fowler. She was a respected member of our Board of Directors and a loyal supporter of Winn-Dixie.
As a Congresswoman and businesswoman, she was a true pioneer, shattering the glass ceiling and serving as a role model--not only for young women, but for all those facing barriers to their dreams.
Her unselfish service to our community, state and nation will not be forgotten.
