Winn-Dixie Signature Recipe
Chili Cheese Strata
Preparation Time: 2 hours, 10 min.
Cooking Time: 45 min.
Serves: 8
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup Milk, 3.25% (homogenized)
6 large Egg, whole, raw -- beaten
4 oz Chilies, green, canned
1/4 cup Sauce, salsa -- prepared
1/4 cup Onions, raw -- chopped
1/4 cup Peppers, bell, green -- chopped
1/4 cup Peppers, sweet, red, (bell), raw -- chopped
6 oz Snacks, tortilla chips, plain -- 4 cups, coarsely broken
2 cup Cheese, cheddar, grated/shredded -- (8 ozs), reserve 1/2 cup
1 whole Peppers, jalapeno, raw -- sliced, for garnish, optional
1 medium Tomatoes, red, raw -- slices, for garnish, optional
1/2 bunch Coriander, fresh (cilantro) -- coarsely chopped, for garnish, optional
Preparation:
1. In mixing bowl, combine milk, eggs, chilies, salsa, onion and chopped peppers; mix until well blended.
2. In lightly-greased 2-quart baking dish, sprinkle half of tortilla chips.
3. Top with 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
4. Pour half of milk mixture over cheese.
5. Repeat with remaining tortillas, cheese and milk mixture.
6. Cover and chill 2-3 hours or overnight.
7. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
8. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
9. Garnish with jalapeno pepper slices, tomato and cilantro, if desired.
