Winn-Dixie Signature Recipe

Buttery Holiday Sugar Cookies

Preparation Time: 3 hours, 15 min.
Cooking Time: 10 min.
Serves: 48

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cup Flour, white, all-purpose, enriched, bleached
1 teaspoon Baking powder, double-acting, sodium aluminum sulfate
2 large Egg, whole, raw
1 cup Butter, unsalted (sweet)
1 1/2 cup Sugar, granulated
1 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
2 pinch Food coloring, yellow -- optional, choice of colors, use more if needed
1/2 cup Sugar, colored -- sprinkles for decorating, or may use regular sugar

Preparation:

1. Sift flour. Add baking powder to flour and sift again.

2. Beat eggs until foamy.

3. Mix butter and sugar until creamy, add eggs and vanilla.

4. Gradually add flour mixture into butter mixture.

5. Add food coloring to dough, if desired.

6. Wrap cookie dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or for 3 hours.

7. Pre-heat oven to 400F.

8. Place cookie dough on lightly floured board, rolling out as flat as possible.

9. Cut out cookies and place on lightly greased cookie sheet, an inch apart.

10. Decorate with sugar.

11. If using a cookie press, follow filling instructions that come with the press and place an inch apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.

12. Bake 6-10 minutes.

13. After removing from the oven, cool before moving to a cooling rack.
